I first met the Mayor when we both moved to
LA. In those days, I used to go over to his house every Monday and watch American
Idol (don’t judge). Although I guess ‘watch’ isn’t
the exact right word. More like: Talk over, argue during, and grill throughout.
Not long after, at some barbeque or cookout
or spontaneous gathering or something, where he knew everyone or at least made
it his business to by the night’s end, he declared himself the Mayor of Silver
Lake. And once we all finished laughing (which took a minute or two), we all
adopted the title. And thus the Mayor was born.
It is a testament to his personality that
even though he has moved away, we still call him the Mayor. His
spontaneity, enthusiasm and aggressive approach to bringing people together – whether they want to or not – has earned him
our love, and the moniker, over and over.
Plus, he is one of the biggest proponents
of The Dirt Alert on the planet. If anyone could have figured out how to
monetize a blog that basically talks about how to live the good life fo’ free,
it would have been him.
Now, the Mayor is getting married. (A
Michigan girl - just sayin’.) And we’ve all gathered out here on the tip of the
continent to celebrate with him. Because when the Mayor calls, there’s only one
answer:
"Fuck, yeah!"
