Geeks and Models

Life is crazy. Usually I get to work with some of the smartest folks on the planet, blowing shit up and putting rockets on bicycles and working manual lathes (look it up) in dingy garages across America.

But for the past week, I’ve been traipsing around LA with a posse of models, visiting agencies, shooting in fancy houses, and having serious discussions about the fact that I need to wear base and powder, every day. (This sort of thing never came up in the garages.)

It’s been a refreshing shift. The food’s better, I can actually wear skirts and nice shoes, and it’s always good for the ego to be reminded that although there are much finer people out there than you, you still get to boss them around.

A note to all design whores out there: I discovered this great thing while looking for suitable houses to shoot in. There are tons of people out there who are willing to let you shoot in their DOPE, expensive, pads, if you’re willing to pay a mere $2K a day for the privilege. So if you’re ever in the mood to tour the coolest houses in LA, just pretend you’re a location scout for a TV program. Worked for me.

And a shout-out to my dad, my favorite geek and model.

Proud Mama

Dudes, I just ate the first grapefruit that ever grew on my little citrus trees on my balcony this AM. I know everybody says this, but mine really was better than everybody else's. And it tasted better, too. (I know everybody says this as well, but I swear, seriously...)

So get off your butts and start planting. It's Spring, and seeds are cheep.

Coco's Gucci Prom

So Tula surprised me with this mix tape yesterday. How sweet is that? And it got me thinking - when was the last time you gave/got a mix tape? Why don't you bust one out right now, or demand that one be busted out for you? Although nobody will be able to top the picture on my CD cover. I'm clearly the girl on the right.

My Brother, Carrie Underwood & Osama bin Laden

What do they have in common? Yesterday was their birthday, and when I called and asked him how he was spending his day, he said that he and his girlfriend were driving around getting free shit from all the places that give it to you on your birthday. He even found this website that lists hundreds of things that you can get fo' free on your birthday, all across the country. (Important Note: Denny's & IHOP don't give out free breakfasts anymore. WTF?)

Here's some of the places where he went in Sacatamatoes, or wanted to go. I give you:

Erik's Tour of Free
- Baskin Robbins: Free ice cream. (And $3 off ice creeam cake)
- Red Robin: Free burger.
- Cold Stone Creamery: Free creation, whatever that is.
- BJ's: Free Pazookie - which is a big cookie baked in a pan. Ice cream on top.
- Blondies in Berkeley & SF: Free slice.
- Houlihan's: Free appetizers.
- Some BBQ place in South Carolina: Free rack o' ribs.
- Some Local Sacto Place: Free carwash.
- TGI Friday's: Free drink and dessert.

I wonder if that's what Carrie and Osama were doing.

Rockets And Blizzards

It's 73 frickin' degrees in Los Angeles and I'm dying of heat, but only this morning I had to step into a foot of snow to get into my car. I woke up in Bloomington, Minnesota, where I've been hanging out with Rocketman, the first civilian to put a rocket into space. He is DOPE. We were filming him for a new show this weekend, which was of course the one weekend that Minnesota got socked by a huge blizzard. It was kinda fun, though - the folks were so nice and the vowels were so flat, and I got to feel like I had winter this year. But, man, am I glad I live in Los Angeles.

Here's the full moon from my balcony at dawn this AM. Free travel and a chance to meet some very incredible people. Word.

And special shouts-out to Conchita, who called me poolside from Puerto Rico to tell me that she also has the best life. Yes, she does.

Rocketman!
